Making and sailing of the flower wreaths on Summer Solstice night have many divination purposes in Baltic tradition. Most popular of them is to tell the future prospects of marriage. If the young woman had doubts about her prospect husband, she would float two wreaths – if they sail together the couple would stay together. If not – they will go separate ways. If single person’s wreath floats away – he/she would get married, if stays by the shore – try again next year:) When the group of people would float their wreaths and if two would float together – it’s the match blessed by Gods.
Also, there is a specific magical formula for braiding those fortune-telling wreaths: one had to gather 9 types of herbs/flowers in batches of 3, form 3 places, moving 3 steps at a time in different direction.
